A vibrant soul and a true ground – breaker, Ray made history by becoming the first African American football athlete given a scholarship with a major university in the Southeastern part of the United States. As he recounts his time at the University, we are thrilled to hear his story of triumph against many odds, and that the University was a great support for him during that time.

Ray was a great friend to me at UM when he was Student Union professional staff and I was a student volunteer with the Union Board of Governors. My favorite memory (of many great ones with Ray) is the weekend in Gainesville when we went to an ACUI event together. It’s great to see you again, Ray, even though it’s through video. And it’s great being a Hurricane with you (and sorry to be married to a Buckeye)! Don’t forget your other first as student government president in ’71-’72. Wishing you only the best, my friend!

RAY,
Holy Moly! I’m visiting UM and the Alumni Affairs Office is going to film my story later this week. I went on to look at the site and THERE YOU ARE! Just in case you don’t remember me, I was the Assistant Director of 960 and then 1968 dorms. I ‘was’ married to John Ruffalo who sometimes played a pickup ball game with you. I’m having a bit of trouble down loading this video in my motel but when I’m on campus next week, I will get the Alumni Office to help me. It is so good to see you. I would love to get back in touch.
What a pleasure.
